A Prairieville man was seriously injured this morning in a crash on Airline Highway near Siegen Lane, a State Police spokesman said in a news release.

Robert R. Prewitt, 54, was riding on a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle about 10 a.m. on Airline Highway when the vehicles ahead of him suddenly stopped, Trooper Russell Graham said in the release.

Prewitt tried to stop, but lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off of it when it ran into the median, Graham said.

Paramedics took Prewitt to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where he is in critical condition, Graham said.

Although alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, troopers have submitted a sample of Prewitt’s blood to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
