Livingston sheriff to be guest speaker

BAKER — Livingston Parish Sheriff Willie Graves will be the guest speaker for the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, set June 26 at the Baker Municipal Center Auditorium, 3325 Groom Road.

The Baker Rotary Club will begin serving the buffet breakfast at 6:30 a.m., and the program will begin 7 a.m.

Former Baker Councilman and School Board member Greg Allen will serve as master of ceremonies, and U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, also will participate in the program. Tickets, at $6 per person, may be purchased at the Municipal Center or at the door.

 

Baker sets seminar for storm readiness

BAKER — The city is sponsoring a Hurricane Preparedness Seminar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 at the Baker Municipal Center Auditorium, 3325 Groom Road.

City and area residents are invited to visit the informational booths in the auditorium and receive information on hurricane safety and recovery.

Ginger Vann, secretary to Mayor Harold Rideau, said many local and state agencies are expected to send representatives, including the state Department of Health and Hospitals and Department of Social Services.

Also, churches that provide shelters, utility companies, insurance agencies, police and fire officials, health organizations, the Baton Rouge Metro Airport and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
