Holden boy dies in crash
HOLDEN — One boy was killed and a woman seriously injured Sunday when they were ejected from their truck in eastern Livingston Parish after crashing into a tree, Louisiana State Police reported Monday.
Alvin Ramirez, 17, of Holden, drove off the right side of La. 441 northbound, north of La. 1036 and the Holden area, shortly after 3 p.m., troopers said in a statement.
Ramirez steered the truck back onto the highway before losing control of the 1997 Chevrolet pickup, troopers said. The truck went into a ditch and struck the tree, troopers said.
Ramirez and his passenger, Chasity Parish, 19, also of Holden, were not wearing seat belts, troopers said.
They were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, where Ramirez later died. Parish’s injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening, troopers said.
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, troopers said.
