Plaquemine Mayor Mark “Tony” Gulotta is scheduled to address the Iberville Council on Aging at noon Wednesday about a new electrical power contract the city is negotiating with an energy supplier, a news release said.

Gulotta has expressed regret that Plaquemine residents saw significant increases in their utility bills last summer because of rising costs of natural gas used to generate electricity.

Senior citizens are invited to attend Wednesday’s function in which Gulotta is expected to give energy-saving tips and explain how the new energy contract would reduce and stabilize resident’s electrical bills.

Residents attending the event  are invited to take part in a drawing with electrical fans as prizes, courtesy of the city.

Gulotta plans to present a $4,000 grant to the Council on Aging to help subsidize elderly residents’ electrical bills, the release said.

The grant is funded by utilities customers who donate to the city’s elderly assistance program, the news release said.
