Homicide suspect booked
BAKER — Police investigating the Tuesday morning shooting death of a Baker man said Thursday they had obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in the slaying.
Police Chief Mike Knaps said Allen J. Johnson, 26, of Baker, is accused of second-degree murder in the death of Jeremiah Gibson, 24, who lived on Daniels Street not far from where he was gunned down about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Detectives also obtained an arrest warrant Thursday for D’Andrew M. Jones, 19, also of Baker, who is accused of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Knaps said Johnson surrendered Thursday night and Jones remained at large.
Knaps said investigators obtained information alleging that Gibson, Jones, Johnson and a woman were on the porch of Johnson’s mother’s residence at 3895 Jefferson St. smoking marijuana and drinking early Tuesday.
At one point, Gibson and Johnson got into an argument, and Gibson left the area only to return a short time later, Knaps said.
At least one witness said Gibson had a “bulge” under his shirt near the waistband, and Johnson fired at least three shots at Gibson as he approached the porch.
Police responding to a report of shots fired in the area found Gibson lying in the yard of the Jefferson Street residence.
Knaps said an autopsy revealed that Gibson was struck in the torso by three bullets.
The police chief said Jones was seen entering a convenience store with Gibson about three hours before the shooting. Jones came forward on Wednesday to say he accompanied the victim to the store but dropped him off at his home on Daniels Street.
Knaps said Jones denied knowing anything about the shooting.
