EBRSO statement regarding the investigation
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office released the following statement regarding the investigation: We are very sympathetic and understanding for the loss to this family. The Sheriff’s office has, and is, conducting a thorough investigation of this incident.
So far, the investigation revealed that there was another individual present at the time of Mr. Traylor’s death. At this time it appears that this individual’s interaction with the deceased was not linked to his cause of death. This individual was interviewed by the Sheriff’s Office at the earliest time that this individual’s attorney made him available to detectives following the incident. The investigation also revealed that it appears that other individuals attempted to render medical aid to the deceased. Our investigation is still ongoing, but at this time we cannot substantiate any criminal wrongdoing.
After consulting with the coroner, this young man’s death was determined to be natural, with his lifestyle as a contributing factor. Our investigation indicates that Mr. Traylor had a past history of drug use and on the day of his death, he reportedly ingested illegal substances which may have contributed to his death. Our investigation has revealed that earlier in the afternoon, the day before his death and prior to meeting up with the individual present during his death, the deceased told several witnesses that he had ingested illegal substances. While in the presence of these witnesses he was observed to be drinking, smoking what he stated was marijuana and admitted to ingesting another illegal substance. Based on the information obtained during the investigation, detectives are working closely with our narcotics division to attempt to determine the origin of all the substances involved.
Again, this is an ongoing investigation and any evidence obtained that is believed to possibly be illegal in nature has been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Upon return of their findings, if any charges are warranted the responsible individual will be charged.
Again, we are very sorry for the loss to this family.
