Baker man indicted in shooting death
A 22-year-old Baker man was indicted on murder and weapons charges Wednesday in the shooting death of a Donaldsonville man in June 2008.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Christopher Taylor, 4307 Breckenridge Drive, with second-degree murder in the June 27 slaying of Labaron Napoleon.
Under Louisiana law, a second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
Taylor also was indicted on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He has a 2007 drug possession conviction in state district court in Baton Rouge. Taylor’s attorney, Rodney Messina, declined comment.
Napoleon’s body was found in the 1500 block of Madison Avenue in Baton Rouge. Police believe the body was dumped there. Witnesses told police Taylor approached one of them after the shooting because he needed help burning the car where the killing took place, an arrest warrant says.
A second witness told police he was in the vehicle with Taylor and Napoleon, 26, at the time of the shooting, the warrant says.
Members of the Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force, which is coordinated by the U.S. Marshal Service, arrested Taylor in April.
Taylor’s case has been assigned to state District Judge Tony Marabella.
