Suspect in fatal shooting arrested in Arizona
A man wanted in the fatal shooting of his estranged girlfriend in Hammond was caught this morning after a traffic stop in Arizona, Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies reported.
Sheriff’s deputies in Pima County, Ariz., took Walter Charles Gibson, 35, 41074 Range Road, Ponchatoula, into custody about 6 a.m. today, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
When pulled over, Gibson identified himself as “Walter Charles,” deputies said.
A Pima County sheriff’s deputy discovered the Buick Road Master Gibson was driving was registered to him and that he was wanted on a count of first-degree murder in Louisiana, deputies said.
Deputies have said Gibson shot Kimberly Knox 30, of Willow Villa Road, Hammond, four times in her front yard as she walked to her vehicle about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputies said they believe Gibson was waiting outside for Knox. She identified him as the shooter before dying Tuesday at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, deputies said.
Gibson is awaiting extradition to Tangipahoa Parish, where he will be booked with first-degree murder, deputies said.
