Rubystine Anderson knew something was wrong with her son when he did not call on Sunday.
“He calls me every three or four days,” Anderson said through tears.
“The last time I talked to him was Wednesday.”
Jarnell Jermaine Anderson, 28, was found Sunday afternoon fatally shot inside his residence at 4807 Packard St., police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
Police initially reported his residence as 4815 Packard St., but that’s the address where the 911 call was made, McKneely said.
He said Anderson had been dead for a couple of days.
Rubystine Anderson said Monday her son lived with her nephew in the Packard Street house owned by her parents. She sent her father over to the house on Saturday to check on her son, but no one answered the door.
She said her sister went over to the north Baton Rouge residence at 2:20 p.m. Sunday and found her son lying on the kitchen floor.
“I didn’t want to go,” Rubystine Anderson said. “I knew something was wrong and I couldn’t handle seeing it.”
McKneely said detectives do not have a motive for the shooting and have not named any suspects.
He added that there were no signs of a break-in at Jarnell Anderson’s home.
Carolyn Cooks, who lives next door to Anderson, described the Baton Rouge native as a “good child,” who came over three or four times a week to use her phone.
Cooks said Anderson recently told her that someone had pulled a gun on him and that he reported the incident to police.
