2 arrested in Hammond area burglaries
HAMMOND — Deputies arrested two men in connection with a burglary spree targeting 16 vehicles and residences in an eight-hour period early Friday, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday.
Deputies were able to tie the string of Hammond-area burglaries to Jmarcus Watson, 18, of West Alabama Street, Hammond; and Brandon Hurst, 18, 55180 Mandella Road, Independence, with limited information, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The vehicle burglaries occurred between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. in apartment complexes on West Yellow Water Road, Lumino Lane and Village Drive south of Hammond and in the Happywoods area.
During that time, the duo also burglarized a house on Lumino Lane, deputies said.
Around 10:15 a.m. Friday, the men were seen entering a Highland Village apartment in the Hammond area and later surrendered to authorities, deputies said.
About $5,000 in property was recovered and is being returned to the owners, deputies said.
Watson and Hurst were booked into Tangipahoa Parish Prison Friday in Amite with 15 counts each of simple burglary and one count of burglary of an inhabited dwelling, deputies said. More criminal counts are pending further investigation, deputies said.
