Evangeline board shuffles key personnel

VILLE PLATTE — School Superintendent Toni Hamlin announced key administrative transfers at Wednesday’s Evangeline Parish School Board meeting.

Child Welfare and Attendance Supervisor Wendy LaFleur has requested to be transferred to an assistant principal’s position and will be assigned in the fall.

Effective July 1, Phillip Buller will assume the post on an interim basis. Buller had been the principal of Chataignier Elementary School.

Also, Hamlin said Peggy Edwards, principal of Ville Platte High School, will become principal of Chataignier Elementary, a role she filled before being moved to Ville Platte High.

Hamlin said Kelli Lafleur, assistant principal, will oversee the administration of Ville Platte High until a final decision is reached.

Hamlin also said Darwin Lazard, desegregation liaison, will be assigned as parish administrator.

Despite having the authority under a federal court decree, Hamlin had never appointed a supervisory cabinet.

Lazard will act on her behalf in her absence.

“Mr. Lazard has a very clear understanding of my goals for the system and assists me with policy and legal issues,” Hamlin said.

In other action, the School Board:

• Watched while school performance flags were presented to the principal and staffs at Vidrine Elementary and Mamou Elementary schools for outstanding test scores.
• Approved the insurance quotes of Phil Lemoine and Associates for Workers Compensation and Property Insurance.
• Recognized students at Evangeline Central where 46 out of 50 students earned their GED, a 92 percent passing rate compared to the state average of 76 percent.

The students were awarded 30 skills certificates.
