Donaldsonville coach hired
DONALDSONVILLE — The Ascension Parish School Board on Tuesday hired Terence Williams, formerly head coach at Leesville High School, as the new head coach and athletic director at Donaldsonville High School.
Williams was one of three candidates interviewed for the job on May 28 by the School Board’s Personnel Committee and was the committee’s recommendation to the board.
“It was the best interview I’ve ever been a part of,” Williams told the board Tuesday.
“There was not one question about wins and losses. Everything was about the kids.”
With Monday’s start of the hurricane season in mind, the board also approved Superintendent Donald Songy’s request that it advertise a request for proposals for acquisition and installation of a permanent generator for the board’s maintenance shop in Sorrento.
Songy said that the cost could possibly exceed $20,000 and, if that’s the case, the board would be required by law to put the item out for bid, a three-week process.
This year, if this area is affected by a hurricane, the School Board would stay in touch with the parish Office of Emergency Preparedness through video conferencing from the School Board’s site in Sorrento, Songy said.
The board also approved a proposal by contractor MBD Construction of Baton Rouge for an increase in the contract cost by $109,552 to connect the final 100 feet of the driveway at the new Lakeside Primary School in Prairieville to La. 431.
Lakeside Primary is one of three new schools set to open for the new school year, the others being Spanish Lake Primary in Geismar and Central Primary in Gonzales.
Prior to the board’s meeting on Tuesday, the Facility Management Committee heard from Tim Amedee, project architect with Noland & Wong architects of Baton Rouge, that Lakeside Primary got its electrical power on Monday.
