Drag racers gathered at State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen Saturday for a charity event with all proceeds benefiting the Louisiana Special Education Center in Alexandria. The race was organized by the Collins Racing Team in honor of the late Christina Beauregard, an 18-year resident of the facility and relative of one of the Collins Racing Team members. The Louisiana Special Education Center, according to its Web site, is a residential facility under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Center is a school for orthopedic and multi-challenged students ages 3 through 32 years and is a licensed intermediate care facility.
