ZACHARY — Police seized more than $9,000 in cash, a car and marijuana after a traffic stop and foot chase Wednesday night, Police Chief John Herty said.

Herty said Officer Brian Morris stopped a car about 11 p.m. in a church parking lot on La. 19 after seeing the car run onto the shoulder of the road several times.

The driver, later identified as Shawn Michael Mosley, 22, 508 Phoenix Square, Hammond, initially gave Morris and Officer Shane White a fictitious name, but produced a large roll of cash when asked to empty his pockets.

Morris found another large roll of money in Mosley’s pocket, and a search of the car turned up more money in Mosley’s wallet, a 9 mm firearm and two bags of marijuana weighing a total of 52 grams, Herty said.

Mosley ran from the area while the officers were attempting to place him and a passenger, Milton E. Banks, 41, 8661 Pride-Port Hudson Road, Zachary, under arrest, but police eventually handcuffed Mosley after chasing him on foot and struggling with him in a nearby neighborhood, Herty said.

The police chief said the department will attempt to keep Mosley’s car and $9,022 in cash through drug forfeiture procedures.

Mosley and Banks were each booked with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the presence of illegal drugs. Mosley also was booked with resisting arrest, improper lane usage and driving with a suspended license.
