Man held after fight with deputies
HAMMOND — Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested an Albany man wanted on outstanding charges who refused to leave a Hammond residence and wound up fighting with deputies.
The fighting broke out early Wednesday after a deputy ordered the man to tie up his pit bull, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Walter J. Temple Jr. 28, 29200 Earl Jones Road, Albany, had been sitting on the back porch of a residence at 45404 Durbin Road, Hammond, with his pit bull around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, deputies said in a statement.
A deputy arrived and ordered Temple to get down on the ground, but Temple told him he had no intention of doing so, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Then Temple’s pit bull became aggressive toward the deputy and the deputy ordered the dog to be tied up, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Temple did tie the dog to a metal pole but then got into a fight with the deputy. A second deputy arrived and the two brought Temple under control, finding scissors in his pants pocket, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The deputies would later learn that the Sheriff’s Office wanted Temple on one count of criminal damage to property and one count for remaining after being forbidden.
Temple was arrested and booked on counts of criminal trespass, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of battery on a police officer and for the outstanding warrants, deputies said.
