Federal judge to address Nicholls St. grads
THIBODAUX — A federal judge in Pennsylvania returns to her alma mater Saturday to deliver a commencement address at Nicholls State University.
Yvette Kane, a 1973 Nicholls State graduate, is chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania.
Born in Donaldsonville, Kane received a sociology degree from Nicholls State, then graduated from Tulane Law School.
In 1998, President Bill Clinton nominated Kane to a U.S. District Court seat, and she has served as chief judge since 2006.
More than 500 will receive degrees during spring commencement exercises at Stopher Gymnasium.
Graduates of the College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Allied Health and University College will receive their degrees beginning at 10 a.m.
At 2 p.m., degrees will be awarded to graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and John Folse Culinary Institute.
