ULL picks eight outstanding graduates

LAFAYETTE — Outstanding graduates chosen to represent the eight academic colleges at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be honored during Sunday’s 5:30 p.m. commencement exercises at the Cajundome.

One of the eight finalists will be selected by the ULL Alumni Association as the outstanding graduate. The award is based on leadership, scholarship and service. The eight finalists are nominated by the deans of their respective colleges.

The honorees are listed by college.

  • College of the Arts — Caroline Randall, daughter of Charles and Mary Randall, of Pineville, is a performing arts major with a dance concentration. Randall (3.85 GPA) has made the dean’s list throughout college. As a member of the Honors Program, she has completed an honors thesis. She plans to pursue interests in the performing arts and possibly combine her interest in theatre and dance.
  • B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration — Katherine Dallas (4.0 GPA) majors in management information systems and accounting, and is the daughter of Robert and Dolores Dallas, of Lafayette. She is engaged to marry Matthew Mayer in 2010. She plans to relocate to Shreveport where she has accepted a job as a business development associate at Bowman Systems, a software development company for health and human services. She also plans to pursue a master’s in business administration.
  • College of Education — Lauren Ashley Jankower (4.0 GPA), a secondary English education major, is the daughter of Steve and Laura Jankower, of Lafayette. She has been on the dean’s list every semester. She plans to teach high school and pursue a master’s degree in gifted education at ULL.
  • College of Engineering — Amy Henschke (3.847 GPA), daughter of Jo and Richard Douglas, of Lafayette, received a modern languages degree in 2006 and graduated summa cum laude. She enrolled in the College of Engineering to continue her education in civil engineering. She plans a career in environmental engineering, and hopes to move to northern California.
  • College of General Studies — Elise H. Peltier, daughter of Chuck and Sylvia Peltier, of Rayne, has been a staff writer and editor of the campus newspaper, The Vermilion, and active in student government as a senator for her college. She has been on the dean’s list every year. Peltier is working on launching a Web site that would allow her to travel around the country and write about issues pertinent to the Lafayette culture. She plans to attain a master’s degree and become a university professor.
  • College of Liberal Arts — Megan Elizabeth Broussard (4.0 GPA), daughter of Brandon and Mary Broussard, of Lafayette, is a public relations major with minors in business and Spanish. Broussard plans to work for an international public relations firm and aims to seek a master’s degree and become a ULL instructor.
  • College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions — Renee Judice (3.49 GPA), daughter of Marc Judice, of Lafayette, and Anne Keaty, of Baton Rouge, and fiancée of Matthew Casbon, has been on the dean’s list for five semesters. Judice has been a data abstractor for Pediatrics Medical Group since July 2007. She plans to work at Women and Children’s Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit. She eventually wants to return to school for an advanced degree, possibly a neonatal nurse practitioner or a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
  • Ray P. Authement College of Sciences — Lan Pham (4.0 GPA), daughter of Tan and Levy Mai Pham, of Abbeville, is a biology major who has been on the dean’s list every semester. Pham will attend the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where she will pursue a Doctor of Optometry degree. She has been awarded a Southern College Optometry Dean’s Endowed Scholarship. She is one of only 12 students to receive such an award out of 600 applications.
