Donaldsonville man convicted in attack
GONZALES — In two cases prosecuted by the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, one man was convicted and another pleaded guilty, District Attorney Ricky Babin said Thursday.
A jury convicted a Donaldsonville man Wednesday of attacking and robbing a 76-year-old man, Babin said .
In another case, a Paincourtville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to manslaughter in the stabbing death of Troy Tunson, also of Paincourtville, Babin said in a news release.
In the first case, Christopher Phillip, 25, 5096 La. 1, Donaldsonville, was found guilty as charged by the 12-member jury after 90 minutes of deliberation, Babin said.
Phillip, who was arrested in September by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, faces a sentence of up to 40 years in prison.
A pre-sentence investigation was ordered.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Benjamin L. Johnson.
In the other case, Ricky Bolden, 39, 6040 La. 308, Paincourtville, pleaded guilty after a jury had been seated and heard two days of testimony, Babin said.
Bolden was arrested June 21, 2007, by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of stabbing Tunson during a confrontation.
The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Chuck Long and Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney.
Sentencing was deferred until a pre-sentence investigation is completed, Babin said.
The 23rd Judicial District is comprised of Ascension, St. James and Assumption parishes.
