Suspects nabbed when they run out of gas
WALKER — Two Denham Springs men accused of breaking into a house east of Watson around midnight today fled from the scene, but they were caught when they ran out of gasoline on Interstate 12 in Walker, Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies said.
Robert Milton Sullivan III, 22, 24127 Millican Drive, Denham Springs, had fled the scene at a high rate of speed after being spotted committing a burglary, deputies said in a statement this afternoon.
Shortly after that, a Walker police officer was dispatched to help a stranded motorist on I-12.
The officer radioed in a description of the Ford Explorer and the sheriff’s deputy investigating the Watson burglary recognized it, deputies said.
Sullivan and Ashley Nicole Jones, 19, 25575 John L Lane, Denham Springs, had attempted to get gasoline and were returning to the sport utility vehicle with a gas can when the sheriff’s deputy arrived along the side of I-12 around 2:30 a.m. today, deputies said.
The SUV contained several of the items reported stolen in the burglary, including guns, a television set and other electronics, deputies said.
Sullivan was arrested and booked on criminal counts of aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, possession of stolen things, possession of stolen firearms and resisting an officer, deputies said.
Jones, who initially gave deputies a false name, was arrested and booked on criminal counts of resisting an officer and aggravated burglary.
As of 2 p.m. today, Jones remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $25,500 bond.
Sullivan’s bond was set at $175,500 with a hold in connection with an East Baton Rouge Parish burglary case, deputies said.
