Springfield burglary suspect arrested
PONCHATOULA — Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies and Tri-Parish Narcotics Task Force agents on Tuesday arrested a Springfield man accused of leaving a funeral early to burglarize the dead man’s house last month.
Cody Easley, 17, 25148 East St., Springfield, was arrested Tuesday at a Pumpkin Center Texaco station in Tangipahoa Parish.
He was booked with aggravated burglary, theft of firearms and possession of stolen firearms, deputies said in a statement issued Wednesday.
More criminal counts against Easley are pending in Tangipahoa Parish and possibly in Livingston Parish, deputies said.
The wife of the deceased man told deputies on April 29 that several guns, bulletproof vests and cash were taken from her residence at 15073 Hoffman Court near Ponchatoula while she was attending her husband’s funeral, deputies said.
Deputies were able to tie Easley to the burglary after learning he was trying to get rid of or sell stolen guns, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
When Easley was arrested, deputies found missing guns, shells and one vest. Livingston and Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s agents later searched his Livingston Parish home and recovered the remaining stolen items, deputies said.
The items included a Taurus 9 mm pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, a Springfield shotgun and a Ruger semi-automatic rifle, deputies said.
Another vest was also recovered, along with illegal narcotics, deputies said.
