Poll: Jindal on par with Foster, Blanco
It’s early yet, but a poll conducted in Gov. Bobby Jindal’s second year shows him faring a bit better with voters than former Gov. Buddy Roemer at the same point and close, but not quite so well as former Govs. Mike Foster and Kathleen Blanco.
The Southern Media & Opinion Research poll, conducted April 13-16 and paid for by Baton Rouge businessman and political activist Lane Grigsby, finds 67 percent of state voters giving Jindal a good (41 percent) or excellent (26 percent) rating.
That compares with 60 percent positive for Roemer in his second year, 76 percent positive for Foster in the second year of his first term and 70 percent positive for Blanco in a poll taken shortly before Hurricane Katrina. Less than a year later, she polled at 31 percent positive, Southern Media found. Former Gov. Edwin Edwards scored a 28 percent positive rating in the second year of his last term, the company said.
The poll surveyed 600 randomly selected voters and has a 4 percent margin of error at the 95 percent level of confidence, the company said, which found only one-third of voters believing that Jindal’s travels on the national stage are good for the state’s image.
Here are the percentage of positive responses in the Louisiana poll for how other elected officials are carrying out their jobs: President Barack Obama (53 percent, though 94 percent among black voters); U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu (60 percent); U.S. Sen. David Vitter (58 percent).
