Police: Woman took child from classroom
A 50-year-old woman was arrested after she barged into an elementary school classroom, removed a child and left the campus with the child, an affidavit says.
Evelyn Gezelda Threard went to Broadmoor Elementary School, 9650 Goodwood Blvd., on Wednesday and attempted to check the student out of school and became angry when she was asked for identification, an affidavit says.
Thread, 8026 Jefferson Highway, Apt. 351, then walked into a classroom without permission and took the child from the classroom, the affidavit says. She got into her car and left the grounds, but soon returned the child to the school, the affidavit says.
A school employee told police she attempted to stop Thread by standing in front of her, according to the affidavit. Thread began to yell at her and put her hand near the employee's face.
The affidavit says the child’s parents refused to give police Thread’s name or relationship to the child.
Thread was later identified and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of attempted simple kidnapping, criminal trespassing, assault on a teacher and disturbing the peace, booking records show.
