Ethel pedestrian dies after being hit by car
An Ethel man walking on La. 955 Sunday night was killed after being struck by a car, Louisiana State Police said Monday.
Felton B. Whitfield, 53, was walking in the westbound lane near the center line around 9 p.m. when a westbound 2007 Mercedes hit him, said Trooper Russell Graham, a spokesman for State Police.
Paramedics took Whitfield to a hospital, where he later died, Graham said.
Neither the driver of the Mercedes, Joseph Washington, 58, nor his passenger were injured in the crash, Graham said.
A test showed Washington, a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish, did not have alcohol in his system at the time of the crash, Graham said.
Troopers believe Whitfield had been drinking, but test results are pending, Graham said.
