Brusly council votes to hire new police officer
BRUSLY — The Town Council voted at a special meeting Monday to hire a police officer to fill one of two vacant full-time spots in the department.
Gary Normand will begin work next week at a starting salary of $12.15 per hour, Police Chief Jamie Whaley said. Normand previously worked in parole and probation for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
Whaley said his department now employs four full-time officers and is searching for applicants to fill the remaining vacancy. Whaley said one officer resigned this past week and another moved out of state about three weeks ago.
In other business, Councilwoman Joanne Bourgeois reminded the Council that Brusly will be judged in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Cleanest City Contest on Friday, May 1. Bourgeois said there were no other contestants on the district level, and Brusly skipped ahead to the statewide judging.
