ST. FRANCISVILLE — West Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies assisted Wilkinson County, Miss., authorities Wednesday in apprehending five people wanted in two separate incidents, Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said.

A sheriff’s helicopter from St. Francisville joined Louisiana State Penitentiary’s bloodhound chase team to help capture a burglary suspect who fled from Wilkinson County deputies when they tried to arrest him at his Pinckneyville Road residence, Daniel said.

The helicopter, piloted by Capt. Ken Thornton and with Capt. Marc Daigle aboard, flew ahead of the chase team as a bloodhound trailed Calvin Jackson for about five miles along a creek bed, the sheriff said.

The hovering helicopter forced Jackson, wanted on six burglary counts, to hide when it flew over him, which allowed the Angola officers and Wilkinson County deputies to catch up with him, Daniel said.

Daigle said deputies also arrested four Baton Rougeans accused of loading two large purses with merchandise and fleeing from a Woodville Dollar General Store Wednesday night.

The manager obtained a description of the car and its license plate number, enabling West Feliciana deputies to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of the Dollar General store in St. Francisville, Daigle said.

Keyond Green, 22, 4150 72nd Ave.; Thymie Brown, 27, 1645 Jade Ave.; Tynesha Green, 21, 4315 Maribel Court; and Laura Ravin, 19, 5141 E. Hunters Chapel Court, were returned on fugitive warrants to Mississippi, Daigle said.
