PIERRE PART — A nightclub dancer and her boyfriend were arrested and booked with desertion of her two small children, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said Wednesday.

The sheriff said deputies received a report of two men climbing out of an open window at the Livingston Apartment Complex on Banker’s Drive in Pierre Part about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies investigated and found two children, 2 and 3 years of age, sleeping in the apartment.

The children’s mother, Lakel Ramo, 23, and her boyfriend, Jerry Compton, 21, were located in a lounge in Morgan City, where the mother works as an exotic dancer, Waguespack said.

Both were booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with two counts of child desertion.

Waguespack said Compton and a friend locked the apartment door from the inside and climbed out of the window to go to the Morgan City lounge where Ramo worked.

The man accompanying Compton was not arrested, Waguespack said.

The state Office of Child Services was notified of the situation and the children were placed in the custody of their biological father, the sheriff said.
