Seven more arrests made in fatal feud; total booked now 17
Livingston Parish deputies arrested seven more people Tuesday in connection with a feud that left one person dead and six injured the night of March 25.
The latest arrests bring to 17 the number of people booked so far in the case. Authorities said Tuesday night they expect to make several more arrests.
Deputies identified the seven arrested Tuesday as Kody Dugas, 20, 28188 Dogwood Lane, Albany; Jeffery Hauck, 19, 14225 New Genessee Road, Tickfaw; and James Joiner, 30, 46466 Randall Road, Hammond.
Also, Laramie Kinchen, 21, 25400 La. 442, Independence; Glenn Laiche, 27, 36968 Longleaf Drive, Independence; Roxanne Owens, 17, 46406 Randall Road, Hammond; and Nicholas Sampey, 23, 47181 Rufus Bankston Road, Hammond.
All seven were booked with rioting. A conviction on a rioting charge carries a penalty of up to 21 years in prison when a death occurs. The seven have bonded out of jail by posting $25,000 bail each, authorities said Tuesday evening.
An ongoing domestic dispute led to the street fight and shootings in northeastern Livingston Parish, Sheriff Willie Graves said.
On Thursday, sheriff’s detectives booked Morris “Fred” Laiche III, 29, 36968 Longleaf Drive, Independence, with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
Deputies said Morris Laiche faces prosecution in connection with the fatal shooting of Trent Stewart, 23, 33555 Ambrose Hoover Road, Tickfaw.
Stewart, who appeared to have at least one gunshot wound to his neck, was found dead in his truck after two opposing family groups battled on a dead-end street, said Perry Rushing, chief of operations for the Sheriff’s Office.
Also during the initial outbreak of violence, four other people were shot and two others injured, possibly when beaten with pieces of pipe, Rushing said.
Jason Ard, chief deputy of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the Sheriff’s Office is continuing heavy patrols this week in the area where the melee took place.
Authorities got a call on March 25 warning there was about to be trouble on Longleaf Drive north of Albany in the Independence area, but the shootings took place before deputies could get to the scene, Rushing said.
Longleaf Drive is in Livingston Parish, but is accessible only by going through Tangipahoa Parish, he said.
