Students at Wedgewood and Cedarcrest-Southmoor elementary schools have temporarily moved this morning to nearby Southeast and Sherwood middle schools after storms knocked out power, said a spokesman for the East Baton Rouge Parish system.

Students at two other schools, Lasalle Elementary and Southdowns School, are without power but will remaining there in hopes that electricity will be restored later today, said spokesman Chris Trahan.

Power came back on at Woodlawn Middle School at 9 a.m.

Electricity is expected to be restored at Wedgwood and Cedarcrest-Southmoor elementary schools at noon, and if that occurs the students will return. LaSalle Elementary students may have power by 2 p.m., while Southdowns’ situation is unclear, Trahan said.

About 18 special needs students from LaSalle have been taken to Southdowns, which likewise serves such children, and parents have been called to pick up their children if they’d like, Trahan said.

If power hasn’t been restored to the displaced students’ schools by the end of the day, they will be returned to their home schools for regular bus service or to be picked up by their parents, school officials said.
