Police track down burglary fugitive
PONCHATOULA — A fugitive wanted in connection with several Ponchatoula-area burglaries has been captured, the Police Department reported Wednesday.
Police previously arrested Carnaiel D. George, 27, who has Ponchatoula and Springfield addresses, on unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and other counts Feb. 20, but he was released later from Tangipahoa Parish Prison, Police Chief Bry Layrisson said.
Since his release, George is suspected of committing additional burglaries, primarily of vehicles, and was wanted by the Hammond Police Department Tangipahoa and Livingston parish sheriff’s offices and the state Office of Probation and Parole, Layrisson said.
George was found Sunday at 242 N. Fifth St., Ponchatoula, police said in a statement; he surrendered after a short negotiation, police said.
George has been booked into prison so far on counts of failing to appear in court on the Feb. 20 charges and a probation violation.
He has been given a $50,000 bond, said Dawn Panepinto, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
