Toddler falls in pond, drowns near Clinton

CLINTON — A 2-year-old girl died Sunday at a Baton Rouge hospital after falling into a pond Saturday, an East Feliciana Parish sheriff’s detective said.

Detective Terry Miller said the child, Carlissa Desdunes, apparently wandered away from a home on Pipes Lane west of Clinton shortly before noon Saturday and fell into the pond.

The child was taken by helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where she died Sunday, Miller said.

The drowning remains under investigation, he said.
