Pointe Coupee Central High School sent home as deputies look for gun
MORGANZA — Pointe Coupee Central High School students were sent home for the day today as authorities continue to search for a reported gun on campus.
Annie Morrison, communications director for Advance Baton Rouge, the nonprofit that runs the school, said students and their bags were searched by Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s deputies around 2:30 p.m. Students were sent home after they had been searched, Morrison said.
The sheriff’s office placed the school on lockdown around 1:30 p.m. after a teacher was told a weapon was brought to the school.
Sheriff Beauregard “Bud” Torres said his office is looking for a gun.
Although no gun had been found at the school as of 3:30 p.m., Morrison said, the school’s administrators felt it best to notify parents of the early dismissal and send the students home.
Morrison said sheriff’s deputies are currently questioning a few students as the investigation continues.
