Jury convicts man in rape of young girl
CONVENT — A St. James Parish jury convicted a 58-year-old Gramercy man of grabbing a young girl off her bicycle, dragging her into his house and raping her, 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin said Thursday.
Samuel Gordon Jr. was found guilty by the 12-member jury Wednesday of aggravated rape and second-degree kidnapping, Babin said.
Assistant District Attorney Craig Stewart prosecuted the case.
District Judge Ralph Tureau, who presided over Gordon’s two-day trial, set Gordon’s sentencing for June.
The 23rd Judicial District is comprised of St. James, Ascension and Assumption parishes.
