VACHERIE — Three children and two adults were injured Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck hit a minibus transporting Head Start students on La. 18, St. James Parish President Dale Hymel Jr. said.

The pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the minibus, causing moderate injuries to the driver, a monitor and three children, who were taken to Thibodaux General Medical Center, Hymel said.

“They are going to be all right,” he said.

Head Start is a parish government-run program, and “we were bringing the kids home when it happened,” Hymel said.

State Police were investigating the accident but no report was available Tuesday, said Trooper Gilbert Dardar.
