Husband charged in wife’s slaying
Prosecutors obtained a first-degree murder warrant Friday for the husband of a Patterson woman whose body was discovered in a canal in lower St. Martin Parish.
Dwayne LaKeith “Keke” Joseph, 32, of Houma, was already being held in St. Mary Parish since Sunday on assault and attempted murder charges for an earlier alleged attack on his wife, Delores Joseph.
St. Martin Parish prosecutor Chester Cedars said the husband will now be transferred to St. Martin Parish to face the murder charge.
“Hopefully, by the time the sun sets today, he will be in the St. Martin Parish jail,” Cedars said Friday.
The remains of Delores Joseph, 31, were found Thursday in a canal off La. 70 near Stephensville.
The mother of three had been missing since Feb. 26.
Her car was found in Morgan City earlier this week.
Cedars said he could not comment on how Delores Joseph died because the autopsy had yet to be performed as of Friday afternoon.
The investigation so far indicates the killing occurred in St. Martin Parish, Cedars said.
First-degree murder is punishable by life in prison or the death penalty.
