Geismar man dies in motorcycle crash

GONZALES — A 39-year-old Geismar man died Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Ascension Parish, Louisiana State Police said Monday. 

Alphonzo Massey was riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed on La. 940, known locally as Orice Roth Road, near Burnside Avenue, or La. 44, State Police Trooper Russell Graham said in a news release.

Massey lost control of the 2003 Suzuki motorcycle, fell off, and struck a culvert on the west side of the road, State Police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Massey was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, State Police said. Alcohol use is not suspected to have been a factor in the accident, but troopers submitted a sample of Massey’s blood for chemical analysis, the news release said.
