CLINTON — East Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a 24-year-old man Friday night in the slaying of another man Thursday, a spokesman for Sheriff Talmadge Bunch said.

Deputies booked Blake T. Thompson, 8456 Shaffett Lane, with second-degree murder in the death of Brandon Dixon, 22, 9727 Overwood Drive, Greenwell Springs, Detective Don McKey said.

Thompson surrendered at the East Feliciana Sheriff’s Office shortly before 7 p.m. after detectives obtained an arrest warrant in the case.

The shooting occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday in the Shaffett Lane residence near Slaughter where Thompson lived with his mother and sister, McKey said.

Thompson told deputies he shot Dixon while defending his mother and sister from Dixon’s attacks, but deputies could find no evidence to support his claim, McKey said.

An autopsy of the victim’s body is scheduled today.
