Man gets life in slaying; woman blames mom
CLINTON — A Norwood woman told a convicted murderer Tuesday she blamed his mother for putting him in the penitentiary and her brother in a grave.
Cynthia Dominick gave a “victim’s impact statement” from the witness stand moments before 20th Judicial District Court Judge William G. Carmichael sentenced Peter Webb Jr., of Wilson, to life in prison for second-degree murder.
An East Feliciana Parish jury convicted Webb, 20, in August in the May 16, 2007, shooting death of Marcus Parker, 25, in an altercation in the street near the Wilson Town Hall.
Dominick noted the irony that a jury returned the 10-2 guilty verdict in the same building in which her brother’s funeral was held.
The funeral was held in Christian Bible Fellowship on Plank Road, now owned by the East Feliciana School Board and being used as a temporary courtroom while the parish courthouse is being renovated.
The shooting occurred after a confrontation between Parker and Webb’s mother, Cassandra Webb. A few minutes before the shooting, Parker had driven by the Webb home and allegedly waved a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol at Cassandra Webb and Peter Webb Jr.’s girlfriend.
Prosecutors alleged that Cassandra Webb followed Parker and that Webb family members hemmed in Parker’s car on the street by stopping in front and back of it.
Dominick told the defendant “the instigator is still walking around.”
“I find a place in my heart to forgive you, Peter Webb, but I can never forgive what you did to my little brother,” Dominick said.
“I can’t even imagine a mother causing animosity between two young men. She took his life, and she took your life,” Dominick said.
Webb’s attorney, Ben Hamilton, filed notice of an appeal in the case. Hamilton argued throughout the trial that his client was defending himself and his mother when he shot Parker three times with a .45-caliber revolver.
Parker was pointing his gun at Cassandra Webb when Peter Webb Jr. came out of a nearby store and saw the two in the street, according to trial testimony.
