Man, woman killed in north BR
A 23-year-old man and an unidentified woman were killed Wednesday night on Canonicus Street in north Baton Rouge in what authorities believe is a drug-related shooting, police said today.
Both victims were shot at about 9:50 p.m. as they were riding in a white 2005 Dodge caravan, police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly said in a news release. After the shooting, the van ran off the road in the 3400 block of Canonicus St. and struck a tree, he said.
Dustin Duncan, 31531 Linder Road, Denham Springs, who was found sitting in the van’s driver’s seat, was pronounced dead at the scene with gunshot wounds to the head, Kelly said.
An unidentified woman, whom police said was approximately 20 years old, was found sitting in the passenger’s seat with gunshot wounds to the head, Kelly said. Paramedics took the woman to Baton Rouge General Mid City, where she later died, he said.
Police have tentatively identified the woman, but her name will not be released until positive identification has been established, Kelly said.
Witnesses said they saw a black man fleeing the scene of the shooting, Kelly said. There are indicators that the shootings were drug related, he said.
Anyone with any information about the shootings is asked to police at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
