Police seek suspect in drill-bit attack
Police are looking for a man who shoved a 1/8-inch drill bit in the back of a man’s head when the victim wouldn’t show the assailant his cell phone.

The incident occurred at 11 p.m. Friday on Florida Street, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman.

The victim was walking from the Greyhound Bus Station to a convenience store to buy cigarettes when he was approached by a man who wanted to see his cell phone, Kelly said.

When the victim refused, he was hit in the back of the head with a drill bit and his cell phone was stolen, Kelly said.

The man’s wounds are not life-threatening.

The robber is described as a thin black man in his mid-30s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet, Kelly said. The robber was unshaven and was wearing blue jeans, a blue pullover jacket and a blue and white cap.

Anyone with information about the attack can contact police at (225) 389-3845 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Deputies hunt man in robbery-kidnap try
Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the man who robbed and attempted to kidnap a woman and her 4-year-old child on New Year’s Eve, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a release.

The man, armed with a metal bar, approached the woman and child in the parking lot of the Rite Aid, 1029 Millerville Road, at 9:45 p.m., Hicks said.

He forced the pair into their car and tried to start it, but was foiled when the woman shouted for help and three men came running, Hicks said. The assailant ran away.

The man, described as an unshaven 30- to 40-year-old white male, 5 feet 11 to 6 feet, medium build and light hair, wearing blue jeans and a dark T-shirt or jacket and carrying a black-and-green collapsible ice chest, Hicks said.
