TICKFAW — Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested three Hammond men in a Sunday morning home invasion during which a homeowner was shot and wounded.

James Wise, 20, 1108 Blackburn Extension; Michael Ruffin, 22, 310 E. Louisiana St.; and Kenyatta Fleet, 22, 203 Kansas St., were booked on aggravated burglary and other counts, deputies said in a statement.

Gunshots woke people in the house at 46440 Drake Road, Tickfaw, and they rushed to the living room to find the homeowner wrestling with at least two of the burglars, who were wearing masks, deputies said.

Witnesses told deputies a third man, armed with a handgun, shot the homeowner at least three times, though deputies found only two shell casings at the scene, deputies said.

Three men were later arrested after deputies spotted them running a stop sign at the intersection of Durbin Road and La. 1064, deputies said.

Deputies found several pieces of black clothing and two handguns in the vehicle and black clothing and a mask dumped near the traffic stop.

The injured homeowner, who was not identified, was taken to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, but was later released with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

Wise was booked on aggravated burglary and conspiracy, deputies said.

Ruffin was booked on aggravated burglary, conspiracy and attempted first-degree murder, deputies said.

Fleet was booked on failure to stop at a stop sign, aggravated burglary and attempted first-degree murder, deputies said.
