Drug deal ends in fatal shooting
A Plaquemine man died Saturday night after he was shot during a drug deal gone bad, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Lt. Charles Armstrong reported.
Colt Anthony Rivet, 26, of 57771 Erwin Drive in Plaquemine, and two other men were trying to buy drugs in the 200 Block of West Polk Street, according to a news release Armstrong issued.
The men told investigators after the shooting they did not have enough money to purchase narcotics from the unidentified drug dealer, so they decided to leave.
As the three drove off, the dealer began to shoot at the car. Armstrong said Rivet was struck by a bullet that entered the car.
The two men with Rivet drove him to the Police Department’s Second District precinct on Highland Road around 10:10 p.m., Armstrong said.
When Rivet arrived at the precinct, Emergency Medical Service personnel already at the location began giving him immediate assistance.
Rivet was transported by EMS to Baton Rouge General Medical Center, where he later died, Armstrong said.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call homicide detectives at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP.
