Holden kicks off term Monday
Mayor-President Kip Holden officially kicks off his second term Monday with inaugural activities that include an interfaith service, an inaugural ceremony and an evening reception in the River Center.
All events are open to the public.
Holden became Baton Rouge’s first black mayor-president four years ago.
He won a second term in October by capturing 71 percent of the vote against three opponents.
Holden will receive the oath of office from Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Catherine D. “Kitty” Kimball and U.S. District Judge Ralph E. Tyson.
Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne will serve as master of ceremonies.
And Monday evening, Grammy Award-winning artist Terrance Simien will entertain at a formal reception.
In an interview Friday, Holden said all the inaugural events will be paid for with his campaign funds.
Holden asks that people who attend the River Center events help restock the shelves of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank after the busy holiday season.
People are asked to bring nonperishable food items for collection outside the Theatre and Exhibition Hall.
