Police jury discusses site program
NAPOLEONVILLE — The Assumption Parish Police Jury heard from its economic development director Wednesday about a new online program that can list vacant, available sites in the parish to assist potential developers.
Erin Watson asked the jurors to submit vacant land sites in their respective wards to her so she can add them to the new Louisiana Site Selection Center, an Internet-based, statewide buildings and site database created by Entergy Corp.
The site will provide statistical information for parishes and communities. Watson said.
The Web site lists only one property in Assumption Parish, the former Halter Marine site on Michel Road in Pierre Part, Watson told the jurors.
The jury later voted to name Watson as the parish’s representative on the Capital Resource Conservation & Development Council.
The organization, in Hammond, covers a 14-parish area and seeks to promote environmental initiatives for betterment of the included areas.
The jury also approved and accepted the road and bridge department’s annual bids for 2009.
Police Jury President Martin Triche said issues remain regarding bids for treated lumber and high efficiency asphalt mix. The two were held out of the approval process until the issues could be resolved.
An agenda item calling for review of the parish’s junk ordinance also was tabled.
as Juror Myron Matherne, who called for the discussion on reevaluating a property owner’s adherence to the ordinance, was absent from Wednesday’s meeting.
