LSU marks third year of dental clinic
LSU will celebrate the third anniversary of its opening of a dental clinic in Baton Rouge in special ceremonies Tuesday on its GSRI Avenue campus.
The clinic has provided dental care to more than 10,500 people through more than 25,000 patient visits since it opened Dec. 2, 2005, while also helping to educate Louisiana’s next generation of dentists and dental hygienists.
The cost of care is usually less then half of that of a private dentist. The clinic offers treatment in dental hygiene, comprehensive and limited specialty dentistry for adults as well as pediatric dentistry.
The dental clinic is open all year, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for scheduled school holidays. For an appointment or more information, call (225) 334-4934.
The LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Dentistry established the service to the Baton Rouge community in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The clinic, established on LSU’s South Campus, enabled LSU’s dental education program to continue and students to graduate on time. It gave area residents a place to go for low-cost dental care. When the dental school reopened in New Orleans, LSU continued the clinic.
The anniversary ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m. at 8000 GSRI Ave., Building 3100, 2nd floor. There will be a brief program and tours of the clinic.
Participating will be Dr. Larry Hollier, chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, Dr. Henry Gremillion, dean of the LSUHSC School of Dentistry, and Dr. Benjamin Record, LSUHSC Baton Rouge clinic director.
