PORT ALLEN — A dispute over a card game late Saturday led to the killing of a 22-year-old man and the wounding of an elderly woman a few hours later in a retaliatory shooting, West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes said Monday.

Police responding to a 911 call at 628 Silvery Lane about 10:30 p.m. discovered Allen Turner, 22, dead of gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, Cazes said.

The killing marked the first homicide of the year in West Baton Rouge Parish.

“It was a card game that went sour,” Cazes said.

Deputies responding to the 911 call noticed a white Chevrolet Impala speeding south on La. 415, Cazes said.

He said deputies remembered seeing the same car at the Silvery Lane residence when they responded to a call about disturbance there earlier in the evening.

The driver, Ryan Williams, 26, 1218 Reverend Manuel Lane,  was arrested and booked with second-degree murder, Cazes said. He is being held at the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center.

A few hours later, shortly after midnight Sunday, someone fired a shotgun blast through the door of the home where Williams had been staying, Cazes said.

He said an elderly woman inside a sitting room was hit in the leg.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Cazes declined to identify the woman. He said police are still investigating the shooting.
