PORT VINCENT — A man facing prosecution on vehicular homicide, drunken driving and other charges after a wreck early Sunday that killed two teenagers heads to court next month, authorities said Friday.

Sean Wesley Harris, 21, 2625 Kelli Drive, Apt. B, Denham Springs, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix that went off La. 16 in a curve around 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Port Vincent Police Chief Norris Hull said.

The car went into a ditch, hit a culvert and flipped into nearby trees, Hull said.

Harris had minor injuries, but his two passengers, Brandon Michael Madere, 17, 10804 Sherrie Lane, and Landon Christopher Carney, 18, 25400 Spiller Ranch Road, both of Denham Springs, died from their injuries in the crash, Hull said.

He said the curve has been the site of four fatalities in his nearly four years as police chief, including the deaths of Madere and Carney.

Hull said the state Department of Transportation and Development has put up flashing signs to warn drivers, but crashes continue.

“It’s a bad curve,” he said Friday.

The speed limit is 45 mph in that area.

Hull said he could not say how fast Harris was traveling but it was certainly above the speed limit.

Harris was taken to Livingston Parish Prison in Livingston and booked with two counts of vehicular homicide, second-offense driving while intoxicated, reckless operation, and failure to maintain control, Hull said.

Harris posted a $50,000 bond Tuesday and has a criminal court date set for Dec. 17.

Harris could enter a plea on that date depending on how the state chooses to handle the case, prosecutors said.
