Suspected cocaine found after chase
During a police chase Tuesday night across the Interstate 10 Mississippi River Bridge, a man threw 4 kilograms of what is believed to be cocaine onto the bridge.
The chase began at 8:20 p.m. on Interstate 10 east in West Baton Rouge Parish, when a state trooper tried to stop a gray Chevy Equinox sport utility vehicle for a traffic violation, Troop A spokesman Russell Graham said.
The driver of the Equinox refused to stop, leading the trooper across the bridge into East Baton Rouge Parish, Graham said.
Near the top of the bridge, the driver threw four packages out of the window, Graham said. Troopers working the scene were able to recover around half a kilo of powder.
The driver was arrested, but his name was not released late Tuesday. He was expected to be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive from West Baton Rouge.
