Dardenne serving as acting governor
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne discovered Friday that he would be acting governor this weekend.
Gov. Bobby Jindal is out-of-state doing campaign fundraising events in Washington, D.C., and Greenwich, Conn.
Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu is out of the country. Landrieu is in London for the Festival New Orleans — a big music festival — and the NFL football game between the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers at Wimbley Stadium on Sunday.
“Mitch called me and told me they would both be gone,” said Dardenne, who is third in the succession line.
“I guess that appropriation for the Old State Capitol is good this weekend,” joked Dardenne.
What is he going to do as acting chief?
“I’m not doing anything. I’ll be here. I’m going to the (LSU) game,” said Dardenne.
“I’m not moving into the mansion, redoing the drapes,” he said.
Jindal, Bush don’t link up during visit
Gov. Bobby Jindal said a busy schedule prevented him from meeting with President George W. Bush last week.
Bush traveled to Alexandria Monday to meet with the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.
The governor said he found out about the president’s visit just a few days ahead of time.
