GONZALES — The Ascension Parish School board approved a bid to replace athletic tracks at two parish schools.

Texas Sports Builders, of Burleson, Texas, south of Fort Worth, was awarded a $612,000 contract to do the job.

Work at St. Amant and East Ascension high schools likely would begin about mid-November, said Jeff Parent, supervisor of maintenance for the district.

The board originally budgeted $575,000 for the tracks, based on an April estimate, Parent said.

The contract will include a five-year warranty on the tracks, Parent said.

Also, the board approved a job description for an administrative assistant to the superintendent and School Board members and authorized advertising to fill that job as well as to find a new senior accountant to replace Betsy Landry.

Landry was named as director of business services on Oct. 7. Kathy Hebert is retiring as business services director. The transition is planned to begin Nov. 1.

Board members also voted to cancel their Nov. 4 meeting in Donaldsonville because of the election scheduled that day. The next meeting will be Nov. 18.
