ST. AMANT — Following media reports on two St. Amant Pharmacy burglaries, a suspect has been identified through Crime Stoppers, Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said.

An arrest warrant is being obtained for Jeffrey Berthelot, 35, 17240 La. 16, French Settlement, on two counts of simple burglary of a pharmacy and one count of looting in connection with the burglaries following Hurricane Gustav, Bacala said..

A large quantity of oxycodone, a pain reliever, was stolen during both burglaries at St. Amant Pharmacy, 12502 La. 431, authorities said.

The first burglary occurred between Sept. 2 and 3, just after Hurricane Gustav came through the area, Sheriff Jeff Wiley said last week, and the second burglary occurred Sept. 18 or 19.

Detectives are now seeking information on Berthelot’s whereabouts and are asking anyone with information about the case to call (225) 621-4636 or (225) 344-7867.
